D'Var Torah

Ha’azinu/Shabbat Shuva, by Rabbi Jay M. Kornsgold, JFNA Rabbinic Cabinet

Words of Wisdom

It is not as some have said that being a mensch, a good man, is the same as being a Jew. First you become a mensch and from there you can aspire to becoming a Jew.

Description:

Jews have lived in India for hundreds of years and experienced little anti-Semitism, but when Israel gained its independence, thousands took the opportunity to leave their country and make ‘aliyah.” Dr. Maina Singh skillfully examines the cultural network of the 70,000-second and third generation Indian-Israelis, and shows how ethnicity, gender and class intersect with "Jewish-ness" to create their complex identities. This program is part of the Alper JCC 30th annual Jewish Book Festival.
